Aeterna

Terms of Use

Last updated 16 October 2026

Draft, not yet reviewed by a lawyer. Apple requires that a subscription app link to terms that are actually in force, so this must be reviewed before a subscription is submitted.

These terms are the agreement between you and Bruno Gomes Selva, an individual developer in California, United States ("Aeterna", "we") about your use of the Aeterna app. By using the app you accept them. They are written to be read, not to be impressive.

What Aeterna is, and what it is not

Aeterna is a daily companion for prayer and for reading Scripture. Part of it is written by artificial intelligence: the Companion's replies, and the notes that explain a passage.

AI can be wrong, and sometimes is.

Scripture itself always comes from a licensed translation and is shown exactly as it stands — the model is not allowed to write it. Everything around it, though, is generated, and it may be mistaken, may not fit your tradition, and is not a substitute for your pastor, your priest or your own reading.

Aeterna is not medical, psychological or crisis care. If you are in danger or thinking of harming yourself, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line. The app shows one when it can, but it is not a service that can help you and no one is monitoring what you write.

Aeterna is not pastoral counselling, spiritual direction, or legal or financial advice.

Your account

What you write stays yours

Your prayers and your conversations belong to you. We do not claim any ownership of them and we do not publish them. We hold them so the app can show them back to you, and we delete them when you delete your account.

We need one narrow permission to operate: to store your words and to send the two kinds of text described in the Privacy Policy to the AI services that write replies and read them aloud. Nothing wider than that.

Scripture and the rest of the content

Bible translations in Aeterna are used under licence from their publishers and remain theirs. English is the King James Version, which is in the public domain. Portuguese is the Bíblia Livre, used under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Brazil licence. Spanish is the Reina-Valera 1909. The reflections, prayers, journeys, notes and recordings are ours or our licensors', and you may not redistribute them outside the app, except that you may share a single verse card as the app's own sharing feature offers.

Subscriptions

Aeterna is free to use for reading Scripture and keeping a prayer journal. Premium adds full daily episodes, an unlimited Companion and Journey Reflections.

Fair use

Please do not:

We may suspend an account that does these things. Where we can, we will tell you why first.

Changes to the app

Aeterna is early, and it changes often. We may add, alter or remove features. If we remove something you are paying for, you may cancel and ask Apple for a refund of the unused part of the period.

If the app is unavailable

We try to keep Aeterna running, but we do not promise it will always be available or always be correct. It depends on services we do not control. As far as the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim and US$50. This does not limit anything the law does not allow to be limited, such as liability for fraud or gross negligence, and it does not take away rights you have as a consumer where you live.

Ending this agreement

You may stop using Aeterna at any time and delete your account. We may end your access if you break these terms. If we close your account without cause while you are paying, we will help you obtain a refund of the remaining period.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the law of the State of California, United States, and disputes go to the state or federal courts in California. That does not take away the protections the law gives you as a consumer where you live: a Brazilian user, for example, keeps the Código de Defesa do Consumidor.
